For those of you in the Toronto and Greater Toronto Area you likely saw or heard the recent story about Phoenix, a five-year-old male chow that was found in horrible condition thanks to being neglected.
The dog was given the name Phoenix by shelter workers in hopes that it would rise from the ashes, get healthy and overcome its condition, with some love and attention. Well, bad news has hit, Phoenix has inoperable tongue cancer and has between mere weeks and months to live.
Phoenix was found in a Clarington backyard and $2,500 is being offered for any information leading to the conviction of his owner.
Why do we continue to find cases like this about animals we domesticate, take in as family members and then abandon?
